Host an event in support of refugees, and invite your friends, family and neighbors! It could be anything such as a potluck, tabling, restaurant outing, film screening, book club gathering, sports game at the park, or a day of service.
Get creative and consider what would be the most fun for you to organize, and the most engaging for your community. Check out the action and planning guide in our toolkit for more ideas.

“I Welcome” Refugees resolutions are official, non-binding declarations of support for refugees that you can pass in your city or school.
Passing an “I Welcome” Refugees Resolution in your city council or student body government is a concrete and engaging step toward supporting refugees. There is space to create a variety of actions in support of the resolution that engage every style of activist. It’s also a powerful way of developing relationships with local elected officials, engaging local media, and honing campaigning skills.
Community Sponsorship is a unique form of engagement that pairs AIUSA members like you with refugees arriving to the United States to give them a warm and supportive welcome. In partnership with your local Resettlement Agency (RA), you may assist with activities like greeting the refugee at the airport, securing their initial housing, setting that housing up with the furniture and household goods that they’ll need to start their lives in the US, taking them to initial appointments, helping them to improve their English and find employment, and showing them around their new community.
Fill out this form or email us at refugees@aiusa.org and we’ll help you get started!
